“Following its departure from the EU, the UK had to introduce a number of new regulations to replace the former European directives that were no longer valid. Accordingly, the Department of transport issued new guidance for Transportable Pressure Equipment (TPE)for implementation in January 2023”.

Introduction

These new 2023 TPE regulations affect all Equipment used on Compressed Gas Cylinders, including Cylinder Valves, detailing how they should be introduced and controlled using the Rho mark in Great Britain (Note: separate rules have been issued for Northern Ireland).

All Pressure Equipment manufacturers (including those for Cylinder Valves) and Gas Cylinder suppliers are now required to be compliant with this Guidance since 1st January 2023 to legally place Cylinders and Valves onto the market in Great Britain and are therefore obliged to inform their customers to ensure they are all aware of these new regulations. Moreover, these new regulations have been endorsed by the British Compressed Gas Association (BCGA) that has also issued its own guidance notes. (see the BCGA references in the Appendix below)

Summary

It is important for all the GCE customers to be aware that it was mandatory from 1st January 2023 to place the Rho mark alongside the approval body number on Cylinder Valve. Failure to do so will contravene the TPE UK Department for transport regulations and BCGA Guidance.

GCE would therefore recommend that its customers audit their Cylinder and Cylinder Valve fleet to ensure adherence to these new 2023 TPE UK regulations.

In response to these new regulations GCE has now made available to its customers a complete range of Cylinder Valves with Rho mark for the GB market.

GCE has a complete range of Cylinder Valves Industrial Medical and Specialty gases already available in compliance with the transportable pressure equipment requirements with the Rho marking.

To be compliant each Valve manufacturer has to display on each Valve the Rho mark alongside the number of the appointed approval body that are accredited by UKAS.

In GCEs case the approval body is Arrowhead Industrial Services Ltd (approval body number = 1266) and you can see examples of the markings on the different ranges in the pictures below.

What the implementation of these New 2023 TPE Regulations in GB means for the Gas Industry

Background and Introduction

From 1st January 2023 new rules apply to Transportable Pressure Equipment (TPE)being placed on the market in Great Britain, as from this date only TPE which has been conformity assessed by a GB appointed body, or qualifying Northern Ireland TPE, can be placed on the market in Great Britain.

Pi- marked EU conformity assessed TPE which was placed on the GB market before 1 January 2023 can remain in the market, as long as it complies with the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009(“CDG 2009”).

Following a public consultation period CDG 2009 has been amended to require from 1st January 2023 that TPE may only be placed on the GB market if it has been conformity assessed by a GB appointed and established body and affixed with the UK Rho mark, or if it complies with the Dangerous Goods and Use of transportable pressure equipment regulations(Northern Ireland) 2010(as amended) and is Qualifying Northern Ireland TPE.

Placing TPE on the Market and Rho mark for Cylinder Valves

Placing TPE on the market refers to each individual item of TPE (such as a high-pressure Cylinder Valve). Proof of placing on the market can be shown using business transactions such as contracts for sale or invoices and shipping documents.

TPE being placed on the GB market must be conformity assessed by a GB appointed body and the Rho mark on Cylinder Valves becomes mandatory from 1st January 2023

TPE already placed on the GB market by 31st December 2022 can remain in use and be refilled, as long as it continues to comply with international agreements on the carriage of dangerous goods by rail (RID) or road (ADR). This includes TPE for hire, rent, or a lease agreement.

Pi- marked TPE placed on the EU or UK market by 31st December 2020 can remain in use and be used in both markets. However, Pi Marked TPE which was not placed on the GB market before 1st January 2023 can be used to carriage of dangerous goods between GB and the EU,but may not be placed on the GB market and transported exclusively with GB, unless it meets the requirements of CDG 2009.

Rho marked TPE cannot be placed on the EU market but can be used if it complies to RID/ADR for carriage of goods between GB and an EU member state.

From 1st January 2023 dual Rho and Pi conformity Marking of valves will be permitted, as long as they are conformity assessed by a GB appointed body and EU notified body.

Future Periodic Inspection and Test

Periodic inspection for Rho marked TPE must be conducted by a GB appointed body in accordance with RID/ADR and CDG 2009.Rho marked TPE that passes a periodic inspection and test conducted by a GB appointed body may be transported to and from the EU in accordance with RID / ADR.

Periodic inspection for Pi marked TPE that was placed on the market before 1st January 2023 can be conducted using 3 options:

An EU notified body in accordance with RID/ ADR and TPED. For the purposes of CDG 2009 TPE continues to be Pi Marked TPE and does not need to be Rho marked

A GB appointed body may conduct the tests in accordance with RID/ ADR without Rho mark being affixed.

3) A GB appointed body may conduct the tests in accordance with RID/ ADR and convert PI marked TPE to UK TPE. In this case the Pi Mark can be affixed to the TPE. This TPE can then be used in the UK but not in the EU.

There will be no requirement to affix Rho mark to a Pi marked TPE already on the market. The Rho mark may only be applied if a GB appointed body is conducting the periodic inspection.

When converting a Pi marked TPE to UK TPE the following marks on the TPE must be affixed

(i)Rho Mark

(ii)Date of periodic inspection and test

(iii) Identification number of the GB appointed body responsible for the periodic inspection and test.

Implications for Cylinder Valves

All Cylinder valves are considered as TPE and those placed on the GB market from 1 st January 2023 require Rho marking.

In practice Rho marking valves will only be necessary where Pi Mark would have been required under EU TPED. Cylinder Valves that were not in the scope of TPED, such as those with CE mark will be replaced using a UKCA mark for those placed on the GB market.

However, Pi marked valves that were placed on the UK market before 1st January 2023 do not need to be Rho marked and can be used after that date.

Implications for Cylinder Bundles

Cylinder Bundles consisting of several cylinder manifolded together placed on the GB market after 1 st January 2023 will need to be conformity assessed by a GB appointed body and the frame of the bundle must be Rho marked and all the cylinders in the bundle individually assessed and marked with Rho or Pi mark.

Implications for authorised representatives and subcontractors

The existing rules for authorised representatives used by manufacturers not established in GB will still apply to fulfil the obligations of CDG 2009.

Moreover, GB appointed bodies may continue to appoint subcontractors in accordance with 1.8.6 and 1.8.7 of RID / ADR.

For decades, Specialty Gas Equipment has been used around the world in industries such as automotive, petrochemical, semiconductor and analytical laboratory. These industries require ever more exacting levels of accuracy and service in the control of gases. New applications are now appearing in the renewable energy sector to counter the excessive inflationary pressure we see affecting traditional energy sources.

In response, Specialty Gas equipment manufacturers are continually developing new solutions to create the most advanced gas control equipment found on the market. This equipment is used on closely controlled gas supply processes with gas mixtures controlling contaminants and components up to parts per trillion (ppt) to serve chemical, biochemical, petrochemical and gas applications used in renewable energy.

Traditionally, Specialty Gas cylinders are either employed for single use, or most often, deployed in manifolded installations with permanently connected cylinders supplying calibration, carrier and analysis gases.

Specialty Diaphragm Valve Range

The new range of handwheel operated valves employs druvaPUR diaphragm technology, a precise, safe and cost effective delivery method for high purity gases.

By using electropolished 316L stainless steel, the purity of gas is maintained and service life maximised when used with pure, inert, oxidising, toxic and corrosive gases. All designed and tested to CGA and ISO international standards.

The range has been specifically designed and developed for the laboratory market. Either for single cylinder or for manifolded cylinder systems with permanently connected cylinders. In these systems there is a need to confirm, at a glance, whether a particular cylinder valve is open or closed and to be able to open or close a valve quickly in process critical supply situations. For this application, GCE has developed a valve with an easy grip hand wheel, which has a simple 90-degree turn on and off design. The highly visible open/close is colour coded green (open) and red (closed), overcoming access and operability issues in system designs using laboratory gas cabinets.

The slow opening Hastelloy diaphragm technology ensures market leading precise, safe and cost efficient delivery of high purity gas flow to downstream laboratory equipment. The technology minimises the operational cost of gas usage and the materials used ensure long service life, resulting in a low lifetime cost.

The range is available with a variety of global thread connections using either 90 or standard 360 degree turn handwheels determined by the application.

Also, in the GCE product development pipeline for 2023 is a range of Specialty Gas VIPRs, the GCE ViPUR. The range includes analogue and digital versions and they will further enhance gas integrity and safe dispense of the purest and highest value gases.

Now with a complete range of Specialty Gas Valves available, that are suitable for an array of gas applications, GCE will be able to service and support the Specialty Gas Industry supply chains. GCE expands independent testing services to help other manufacturers meet EU regulations.

 GCE® Group  has been awarded a certificate of accreditation for the CSN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018, a standard that covers testing. The accreditation, achieved by GCE’s Research and Development Laboratory in Chotěboř, Czech Republic, is valid for a five-year period and encompasses new test methods and re-accreditation for its former scope of accreditation. GCE Group is the leading European manufacturer for gas control equipment, pressure regulators, valves and flow meters for oxygen and acetylene welding and cutting equipment, high-purity gases and medical and electronic industrial applications. The company’s R&D lab also provides services to industry users and other manufacturers.

“The extended ISO accreditation achieves a key goal in developing our capabilities,” says Gareth Pemberton, Director of Innovation, GCE. “The need for excellent testing services is increasing not only from regulatory requirements such as the medical device transition to MDR, but also from our customers. With this scope and our continued investment into the laboratories, we can meet the increased requirements in certification testing, as well as the increased demand for testing.” 

Newly accredited tests include those for compatibility of pressure regulating devices. GCE also offers more testing methods for artificial aging, salt mist corrosion, mechanical strength, leak tests, plastic parts that require checking for resistance against sunlight and heat, and metal parts that are to be checked for resistance to corrosion and many more. Companies seeking these services include those that provide compressed gases, medical pressure regulators, shut-off valves, flow measurement equipment, cylinder/manifold pressure regulators, terminal and quick coupler units.

Jakub Jonák, head of GCE’s R&D laboratory, says, “In addition to performing in-house tests for standards conformance, GCE has the advanced equipment and experienced personnel to investigate inspection test results. We can help manufacturers identify sources of problems and create non-accredited tests to prove out theories or check specific areas of product performance. We can run tests on fast schedules, especially repeat tests, providing responsive customer service.”

The first medical regulators were just industrial regulators with a few alterations. Today’s medical gas control devices have many advanced design features that make them easier to use, more accurate, simpler to maintain and less costly. WHICH DEVICE DEPENDS ON APPLICATIONS

Since the introduction of portable oxygen concentrators (POC) in the 1970s, patients with respiratory issues have experienced a dramatic improvement in the quality of life. There has been a marked increase in people diagnosed with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder) and, consequently, the market for POCs is expected to hit $2.8bn by 2025.

In recent years, home oxygen providers’ reimbursement for home oxygen systems in the US and across Europe has been decreasing, forcing many to find ways to reduce costs. M50 Stationary Oxygen Concentrator is a compact and light weight SOC that provide oxygen flow of up to 5 litres per minute. 

The OC-E 80 and EC-E100 SOCs deliver up to 8 litres and 10 litres of oxygen per minute respectively.

All three SOCs feature, larger LCD screens, quiet operations, an integrated oxygen sensing device for monitoring oxygen levels and a 'No-Flow' alarm to alert the patient if there is no supply of oxygen to the patient. Sir Humphrey Davey (also the inventor of the Davey lamp) first began using gases for pain relief in the 19th Century.

In 1844, Gardner Quincy Colton, an American showman, medicine man, lecturer, and former medical student presented a demonstration of nitrous oxide inhalation, and the need to assure the correct gas was being connected was born.

The US Fire Protection Association, together with CGA along with the American Society of Anaesthesiologists designed the Pin Index system in 1952.

The extremely compact valve design uses geometrically arranged pins and hollows surrounding the gas connection eliminates the risk of accidental connection of an incorrect gas.

In recent years, however, customer needs demand both higher purity and greater medicinal integrity levels within each gas cylinder, requiring the inclusion of a Residual Pressure Device (RPD).

But the beneficially compact size of the Pin Index valve makes this an extremely challenging technical hurdle.

When the bottle is opened, this natural, dissolved CO₂ creates an effervescent “fizz” as it breaks free from solution in the drink wherever a bubble nucleation site exists, giving these drinks their distinct refreshing appeal and contributing to their mouthfeel.

In modern times, brewers and winemakers began to enhance the gasification process by adding supplementary CO₂ to modify the level of carbonation in drinks to change the taste, look and feel of the drinks, as well as preserving the beer.

GCE now offer a range of re-useable, interchangeable gas cylinder diptubes to suit all cylinder sizes. These devices ensure that during cylinder filling, the High Pressure Nitrogen is jetted right into the body of the liquid CO₂ resting at the bottom of the cylinder during the filling processThis vapourises and agitates the CO₂, rapidly mixing the gases together.

Have you ever wondered why eggs remain fresh longer unrefrigerated than you might expect from any other similar dairy foods? Cream, for example, would quickly turn sour, smelly and green if not kept in a fridge. 

Eggs are blessed with a semi-permeable membrane under their shells, which helps to keep environmental contaminants out.

So why are beverage gas cylinders like chickens?

The answer is quite simple. Chickens through their natural respiration process, carbonate their eggs with CO₂ before laying them, ensuring longevity even in the warmest of conditions, in a nest underneath a chicken, for example.

Nigel Ord is a senior manager with over twenty years of solid experience in commercial and operational roles. Most recently Nigel was General Manager for Eriks Flow Control and before that UK Industrial Sales Manager at Linde Gas UK Ltd.

Nigel is a Chartered Engineer, Member of Institute of Chemical Engineers and is a Full Member of the Institute of Leadership & Management.

• The oxygen concentration can be set easily and accurately between a range of 21% and 100%.
• The optional bleed switch enables very low gas consumption,  even with flow rates of less than 3 l/pm. -
• A Pressure Alarm sounds if there is any interruption or pressure drop in the gas supply system.
• Alarm limits can be set to ensure the corresponding oxygen concentration.
• The delivered oxygen concentration can be displayed on the optional oxygen monitor.

The device can be configured individually and according to specific needs enabled through a sophisticated modular system which includes a regulator module, rail clamps, several flowmeters and silencers.

Malmö, Sweden, 3^rd July 2018 – GCE Group has launched a new research and testing facility at Chotěboř, Czech Republic, to raise the standard for safety and performance across the gas industry.

Gas control equipment is investing in cutting-edge technology to challenge existing standards and expand knowledge of the behaviour and lifetime effects of a diverse range of materials involved in the use of pressurised oxygen.

GCE is particularly focused on testing the ability of components to withstand adiabatic compression, a much-misunderstood phenomenon that can pose a serious fire hazard if overlooked. The research comes at a critical time for the gas control industry, following a growing number of globally reported Oxygen gas incidents that underline the need for greater awareness of the complex-and dangerous-properties of pressurised oxygen.

In Europe and US, there are two main competing standards, from the International Standardization Organisation (ISO) and ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials). GCE asserts that ASTM, favoured by the US, is the more rigorous standard and should be adopted as the global minimum. The European Union currently only requires compliance with the ISO standard.

However, according to Gareth Pemberton, GCE Group Director of Innovation:

“Neither standard reflects the real-world demands placed on gas control equipment. We’re committed to ensuring safe operation when reality deviates from conversative laboratory conditions.”

GCE has invested in the latest technology in its pursuit of performance. A high-speed video camera with high contrast ratios and high frame rates enables the manufacturer to record external ignition propagation with extreme precision. This will be joined by an Auto-Ignition Test bench later this year, which will deepen understanding of ignition mechanisms and kindling chains of various materials and lubricants.

“At GCE we believe the gas industry should take responsibility for pioneering new testing techniques to ensure all systems are capable of withstanding higher levels of adiabatic compression,” says Gareth Pemberton. “At our new facility, we are subjecting a wider range of equipment to a heightened level of testing, applying more heat, more shocks, more oxygen and more contaminants.”

He added:

GCE Healthcare today announced the launch of a secure online platform that will enable home oxygen providers to remotely monitor GCE’s Zen-O™ portable oxygen concentrator (POC).

Clarity uses smart, secure and connected technology to place a wealth of information at the providers’ fingertips 24/7, from an online device, wherever they are. The information ranges from flow to oxygen purity, device location and battery life. Providers can also give their patients and their families access to the platform, giving patients an extra support network.

The platform uses the GSM and GPS in the POC unit to transmit data. This reliable system means home oxygen providers are not dependent on the patient having a smartphone or Bluetooth enabled phone. 

With Clarity, providers can offer enhanced customer service at reduced operating costs. Using Clarity from a desktop or mobile device, they can easily check how well the Zen-O™ portable oxygen concentrator (POC) is working and get advanced pre-emptive notice of any issues promptly.

GCE Healthcare is pleased to announce the launch of the Zen-O Lite™ lightweight portable oxygen concentrator (POC) – its second portable oxygen concentrator launched this year to increase mobility for patients that require supplemental oxygen therapy.

Compact and ultra-portable, Zen-O Lite™ is designed to reduce the limitations that respiratory disorders put on mobility. It helps patients with disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, to stay independent and active.

Zen-O Lite™ weighs in at 2.5kg (5.5lbs) and delivers oxygen on demand at an output of 1050ml per minute. For patients who need more oxygen, there’s the Zen-O™, which was launched in January 2016. It has a higher output of 2litres of oxygen per minute and is also portable at 4.66kg (10lbs).

Effective immediately, the GCE Portable Oxygen Concentrators under the Zen-O™ brand will be marketed to US and Canadian customers. A flow curve is set in a test environment, mostly on a gas like nitrogen or air, or on a liquid like water (as its characteristics stay very similar when put under pressure) under ambient temperatures. Mind, when you buy a regulator for liquid, it does not automatically mean, the flow curve you receive is made on a liquid test stand as well. Often it is made on a gas test stand. You may need to ask for this if desirable. The inlet pressure is fixed and then flow is added to the pressure regulator. The start of the flow has an effect on the behavior of your outlet pressure. 

Right after the initial flow, a pressure drop is noticeable. This is called the "Initial Droop". After this initial drop the pressure will more or less stabilize over a given increasing flow rate. The flow rates at which the outlet pressure remains more or less stable is called the "optimal flow range". Then the pressure starts dropping again. This is called the "choke flow range". This is the area where you do not want your regulator to operate. When you size your regulator, it is best to have it well within the "optimal flow range". 

Mind, besides a flow curve, one can also calculate the flow coefficient (Cv), though this says more about the maximum allowable flow capacity than about the optimal functioning at a given flow. Flow thus influences your pressure regulator behavior. 

When continuing with the flow curve, the test stand decreases its flow again and then you will see the outlet pressure with a decreasing flow rate is higher than with an increasing flow rate. The difference between these two is called "Hysteresis". And then when the flow rate is decreased to zero, the outlet pressure has increased compared to the initially set outlet pressure. And this is called "Lock-Up".  

Typically, a flow curve should be delivered by the manufacturer. As there are differences between flow curves from one to the other manufacturer, always check you receive a description with it and/or the axes are labelled and the line is specified. Some examples from GCE Druva & Kayser-Werk:

Two other terms we did not cover yet, "Creep" and "Decaying Inlet Characteristic".

"Creep" means the outlet pressure slowly increases, and this is normally something that happens over time. This is adjacent to a "Lock-Up" and is actually an indication your regulator is leaking. In such case, I would call my supplier and ask for a replacement. 

"Decaying Inlet Characteristic"; the term actually says it all. Due to a lowering of the inlet pressure, something will to happen with the outlet pressure. And that is correct. It goes up. When you have a gas supplied to you from a cylinder, the inlet pressure sinks as the bottle empties or depletes. Your outlet pressure goes up. When working in a safe environment, it is advisable to check this number with your supplier to avoid any alarm in the system.

When we speak of controlling, we actually mean regulating. It is a regulator after all...

A pressure reducing regulator (PRR) has a higher uncontrolled inlet pressure and a lower controlled outlet pressure. So, a PRR controls the pressure after the regulator, in the downstream process line.  Think of a gas cylinder. When you are in a laboratory, there are “Point Of Use” regulators (in short called POUs) at the table/ furniture (see picture below). These supply the researchers with the gas they require. Outside of the room, often in the basement / warehouse of a building, there is a number of gas cylinders connected to the gas supply system of the room or building. The pressure in these cylinders, when completely filled, is normally around 200 bar. The gas supply system of the hospital cannot handle such pressures, so there are pressure reducing regulators (often part of changeover panels) in place to reduce the pressure to a constant 5-7 bar. Then there where the researcher needs his/ her gas, the pressure is regulated further down to what is required. 

 Pressure reducing regulators are also often used after compressors or pumps to precisely control (regulate) the downstream pressure. 

A back pressure regulator (BPR) controls the pressure before the instrument itself. By doing this, it either protects the infrastructure before the regulator itself, or by using a PRR and BPR in one line, you put a certain part of a process line under a controlled pressure. This you would do when testing the strength of a tank for example, or when you wish to create a constant seal. When looking at the oil industry, there are these large floating production ships, called FPSO (Floating Production Storage Offloading). There are flexible hoses in place to pump water into the oil well to allow for more oil to stream out, or lines for oil to be brought to the surface. These flexible hoses need to stay connected to the vessel. To ensure this, seals are made around these pipes making this possible and keeping the lines secure. This is where you would use the two; a PRR and a BPR. Another good example for a BPR is for controlling the by-pass for a Positive Displacement pump (PD-pump). 

A BPR is not a relief valve. It is not there to blow off excess pressure; it opens up just enough to stabilize the pressure to the desired level before the regulator. It is much more stable, reliable and protects your installation. 

Most regulators in use are Pressure Reducing Regulators, as their application is far more common. In case you have doubts which to use or where to place it in your system, please feel free to contact us via: regulator@gcegroup.com.
 

Please, do not try to use a valve to perform the functions of a regulator. It may save you money on the initial purchase, though in the end you will be paying a lot more. Their performance does not match that of a regulator. Also for this, and other gas control questions, you can contact us via the above email address.

Our Customers are demanding more gas in the cylinders, and more gas filling stations are able to fill the cylinders to 300bar pressure. Filling cylinders to higher pressure means that the gas cylinder can hold more gas and will last longer. There are a number benefits to having more gas in cylinders which include; gas companies will make fewer deliveries,  gas users can hold less stock of cylinders, and reduced manual handling as cylinders are replaced less frequently.

Pressure regulators are built to last. They should work when the need is there. They should last for many years. They should withstand many pressurisation and depressurisation cycles.  They should handle the flow it is set for. And they should have minimal effects to flow pattern changes. 

A pressure regulator manages the pressure of a flow. A higher inlet pressure is managed down to a controlled outlet pressure. The outlet pressure is managed by the person/system controlling it. A person can do this with a hand-knob or via an actuated line. The process itself can also do this, with an actuator and a signal. 

Choosing the right regulator for the right application is not as easy as it seems. With the known inlet pressure, the process temperature, the flow and the desired outlet pressure, a things are determined, but that does not determine what regulator works best for you. It starts with determining what fluid it is and what its state is in when going through the regulator. LNG at -161degC at 1 bar pressure is most likely to be a cryogenic liquid; at 125degC and 1 bar it is most definitely a very cold gas or vapour. Mineral oil at 2degC needs more space than at 42degC. 

In case it is a gas, the behaviour at changing conditions tells you a lot about what purity you may need; oxygen can do a lot of damage when ignited by an impurity. For oxygen use a special BAM certificate is in place ;-).

The system is relevant as well. Where is the regulator placed; is it right after a high pressure tank and the outlet pressure is at 5bar, a dual stage regulation will avoid the Joules-Thompson effect to happen on your regulator, or a heated regulator for cold LNG right before the heat exchanger, may be worth the investment. 

Then there is the matter of relevance. How relevant is it to have no hysteresis or have a minimal initial droop? Do you find t convenient when in case a bottle depletes, the other takes over automatically, and even without the loss of outlet pressure.

Many of these questions need to be answered when choosing the regulator you REALLY need. And to avoid overpaying!

GCE Healthcare launches portable oxygen concentrator to increase mobility for people living with chronic respiratory disease

The Zen-O™ is a compact supplementary oxygen therapy device that gives respiratory patients more independence within and outside their homes

UK, 4 January 2016 – GCE Healthcare today announced the launch of the Zen-O™ portable oxygen concentrator (POC)  – the first product to be developed by its new Innovation Centre in St Helens, UK.

The unobtrusive Zen-O™ is a lightweight oxygen therapy device that weighs in at 4.66kg (10lbs) and can be carried in a carry bag or pull cart. Its portability makes it easier for patients living with lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)¹ to get out and about and receive oxygen when they need it most.

We have shifted to new location, in Centre of Bangalore city of bigger office space, Service Centre, Ware house , Demonstration and Training room. Currently We have employed more than 20 people and increasing.
We have also developed Service centre to cater our Indian customers, and demonstration Room for our products,
We are welcoming our customers for training and demonstration needs.

I am pleased to announce that Mr Gareth Pemberton has been appointed GCE Group Director of Innovation.

Gareth has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Warwick University in the UK and has extensive experience with Research, Development and Design of Equipment for use with Industrial and Medical gases. He has been working for Air Products gases for the last nine years, most recently managing new product development for the metal fabrication market on a global basis.

Working directly for the GCE CEO, Gareth’s main tasks in this role will be; to manage the Innovations and Technical teams in the GCE Group. To identify new materials, technologies, product opportunities and to provide rapid but “Sustainable Product Development “ as identified in the GCE Group long range plan during 2014.

Gareth will start his new role on the 19th May 2014 and will be based in the GCE UK office, managing the new Innovations team which will be created during 2014.

I would like to welcome Gareth into his new job in the GCE Group and wish him every success in working together with the GCE Business Area Management and Technical teams in the future.

After 9 years of service, Michael Hermansson has decided to step down as CEO of GCE Group and seek opportunities outside the Group. During his management, GCE has undergone some fundamental changes to the Supply Chain; restructuring the production platform and centralizing the warehousing. Michael has pursued a number of bolt-on acquisitions and successfully closed a number of them.
 
As his successor, Mr. Christophe de Fitte, has been appointed and will take up his position January 6. Christophe has been until recently President of Sandvik Hard Materials and has extensive experience in industrial businesses within European and global markets.

I would like to thank Michael Hermansson for his efforts and at the same time wish him good luck for the future.
Michael will effectively step down as CEO January 6 when Christophe takes up the new role however; Michael will support the new CEO until mid-January.

Designed to supply up to six gases and compliant with stringent UK Department of Health guidelines, the units are fitted with an integrated alarm and, for added security, an emergency valve is accessed through a unique pull-off cover with its own break tab.

As safety is our paramount concern, all the emergency gas supplies are connected through gas-specific NIST connections and the unit can be securely closed and locked after the gas supply is connected, while still allowing easy access to the ball valves.
